Overview
Overview

With the knack of sailing become second nature, it’s time for Casino classmates to finesse the fine points of racing and technique. Teens progress to these rabbity, instructive boats -- roll tacks, trapezes and spinnakers and so forth -- to subtleties they’ll use in college racing and beyond. The speed and sensitivity of 420s are addictive. Developed in 1959, both “club” and “collegiate” versions are found all over the world.

Cousin 470

The 420 has a larger 4.7-meter cousin which has been raced in the Olympics since 1976.
